Indian Rock Photos – A Natural Arched Rock

If you’re already making the scenic trek down to North Dome from Tioga Road, don’t hesitate to make the very quick detour to Indian Rock along the way. Here are some of the best Indian Rock photos I took on my visit.

Free climbers and bouldering fans will likely enjoy this rock formation. A quick little climb affords some stunning views of the valley and Half Dome below.

As mentioned in my North Dome gallery, this is a unique straight-on vantage point of Half Dome. Not too many visitors would even recognize the park icon from here.

I believe I did this hike in Late August or September, and though there were quite a few groups at North Dome, I had Indian Rock all to myself. I like the natural “window” created by this formation, and I do wonder how it came to be…

As chance would have it, I just returned from Arches National Park in Utah. It’s pretty amazing that we have something similar right here in Yosemite. It’s quite unique!

Tea Pot and Handle?

This “natural bridge” rock formation was fascinating, and to be honest, a lot more worthwhile than I expected. The odd photo above almost looked to me like a tea kettle with stone handle.

To give you some context, here you’ll notice the right half of Half Dome (on the left side of the frame.)

I really enjoy bizarre “out of this world” rock formations like this. Makes me wonder how many similar others there might be elsewhere in the Sierras?Someday I hope to find out.
