Yosemite Coyote Photos – Howling Predators

Clearly this is an album I need to contribute more to. However, when your wildlife sightings for a specific animal are limited, there’s only so much you can do! I promise I will add more images as soon as possible. Anyhow, here are the few Yosemite coyote photos I do have for the time being.

Mangy Coyote in Rocky Forest

Although I know they can be found down in the valley as well, the few interactions I have had with these canine tricksters has been up in the high country. These pictures were both taken along Glacier Point Road, off of Highway 41. The first coyote seemed quite mangy and ragged. He crossed the road and continued up a rocky hillside. That was shot around mid October.

The second situation was a bit odd. I was driving up the road in September I believe, and suddenly I noticed a coyote on the side of the road. That in and of itself isn’t that strange, but instead of simply running off into the forest when he spotted my truck, he just ran ahead of me on the road instead.

In fact, he carried on this way for quite some time, looking back at from time to time, but never veering out of my way. There was actually a second coyote I could here howling in the forest, trying to locate this one. Anyhow, eventually he did move to right and let me safely pass. Haha.

As far as danger is concerned, I don’t think coyotes pose any real threat. They will avoid humans, preferring to hunt small animals such as rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks instead.
