Lake Tahoe Winter Photos – December Wonderland
While I do have a few photos of this beautiful Sierra lake, I certainly hope to add more in the future. I took these Lake Tahoe photos on a trip in December a few years ago.

It was an overcast day, as is plain to see. However, during my drive to South Lake Tahoe, I spotted this beautiful boat house on stilts out in the water.
It was the perfect opportunity to use my new heavy duty ND filter + circular polarizer. I believe this capture was a 30 second exposure, so the lake water is completely smoothed out.

Even though the skies were gray, I still enjoyed the snowy peaks and wintry scenes (in general) around the lake. Below you’ll see iconic “Wizard Island” in Emerald Bay.

I do notice a huge contrast from the sunny days of summer, when the forest my be more green…and the lake appears a striking, deep blue.
I used my Canon super zoom to hone in on people boating out on the water.

Right away I became mesmerized by the ripple patterns on the lake’s surface. This particular kayaker was actually fishing, I think. If you were wondering what the temperature was like when I took these photos, the answer is a resounding COLD! Haha.

Here’s a rare shot of me in the frame. As a matter of fact, I walked to the water’s edge to skip some rocks, but these ducks had other plans for me. I assume they were begging for food, but ultimately they were just in the way.
In closing, I am well aware I have barely scratched the surface here at Lake Tahoe. Without a doubt, in the future I’ll be back to photograph this destination throughout various other seasons.
